The Gir National park has variety of gir animals which are found in Sasan Gir National Park. Sasan Gir is very good place for bird-watching. Sasan Gir holds a large number of lions with leopards, which makes one of the big-cat concentrations in India. Sambar and chital, nilgai, chousingha ,Indian gazelle and wild boar thrive in Gir. Jackal, striped hyena, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, langur, porcupine, black-naped Indian hare are other animals of Gir Forest.There are only 411 Asiatic Lions are left out in the Gir National Park and all of them are in or around the Gir Forest National Park. That is why Gir Animals are famous for its Only Asiatic Lions.

The ecology of Sasan Gir holds about 38 species of mammals, and around 300 species of birds, 2000 species of insects and 37 species of reptiles. Animals of gir forest are carnivores that includes Asiatic Lion, Hyeana, Mongoose, Civet cat Leopard, Jackal, Jungle cat and ratel.Some of the gir forest animals are seen very rarely which are desert cats and rusted spotted cats. Some of the gir animals are herbivores which includes Sambhar, Chital, Spotted deer, Nilgai, Chinkara and wild boar with a small population of black buck.
Including all these gir forest animals there are smaller mammals which are the porcupines and hares and the rare pangolin. The reptilian fauna is represented by crocodile, the star tortoise, the monitor lizard and a number of species of snakes. Along with the stream banks Python is also found. It is estimated that highest population of marsh crocodiles is found in gir forest. The Gir National park has number of 250 birds and 50 other species of gir animals which includes endangered lesser florican and saras crane that were recorded in the grassl along the wildlife sanctuary. The main scavenger bird is the vulture of which about 6 species have been recorded.
Gir animals of species like sandgrouse, grey francolin, quails, Asian paradise flycatcher, black-naped monarch, Pygmy woodpecker, black headed oriole, crested swift, grey-headed flycatcher, verditer flycatcher, tickell's blue flycatcher, white-browed fantail, sambhar, Asian brown flycatcher, greenish warbler, white-eye, coppersmith barbet, common and marshal's iora, spotted deer, rufous treepie, yellow-footed green pigeon have been spotted by our guests around the lodge itself. Gir animals like Long-billed vulture, black buck, Indian white-backed vulture, red-headed (king) vulture, and Indian Pitta have been seen in the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Sasan Gir is recognized as the home of the Asiatic lion. The Junagadh Zoo was built in 1863 then Nawab of Gujarat had set up this zoo in order to save the Asiatic Lion. Gir forest animals are recognized for only the Asiatic Lions. The Asiatic Lions had vanished from all over the world except Sasan Gir. The probable years of its extermination region wise was Bihar in 1840, Delhi 1834, Bhavalpur 1842, Eastern Vindhyas and Bundelkhand 1865, Central India and Rajasthan 1870 and western Aravalis in 1880. It was reported in 1884 that last animal existing in the wild outside Saurashtra. The Nawab of sasan gir provided sufficient protection for the gir animals-Lions and after than their population increases in year of 1904 to 1911. After the passing of the Nawab 12 more lions were shooted but after year 1911 shooting was severely restricted by the British Government. In the year of 1913, one of the officer reported a population about 20 lions in Sasan Gir. Animals of gir forest are now preserved and safe from danger.
