Gir National Park
The Sasan gir Forest is situated in Gujrat which is a wildlife Sanctuary in Gir, India. Gir Forest was well known in the year of 1965 and it is situated 58 km from Junagadh city. The Gir reserve Forest is very nice place for visitors to enjoy their holidays.

Flora and Fauna of Gir Forest

The gir national park holds about 38 species of mammals, and around 300 species of birds, 2000 species of insects and 37 species of reptiles. Animals of gir national park are carnivores that includes Asiatic Lion, Hyeana, Mongoose, Civet cat Leopard, Jackal,Jungle cat and ratel.Some of the gir forest national park animals are seen very rarely which are desert cats and rusted spotted cats. Some of the gir forest national park animals are herbivores which includes Sambhar, Chital, Spotted deer, Nilgai, Chinkara and wild boar with a small population of black buck.
Including all these gir forest animals there are smaller mammals which are the porcupines and hares and the rare pangolin. The reptilian fauna is represented by crocodile, the star tortoise, the monitor lizard and a number of species of snakes. Along with the stream banks Python is also found. It is estimated that highest population of marsh crocodiles is found in gir forest. The gir national park has number of 250 birds and 50 other species which includes endangered lesser florican and saras crane that were recorded in the grasslalong the wildlife sanctuary. The main scavenger bird is the vulture of which about 6 species have been recorded.
Getting to Gir National Park
By Transport: getting to gir national park by means of transport is quite easy. The gir national park is connected to other states with the help of state highways. Government of India provides state transport buses for the passangers.Large number of state transport buses available from the main city Junagadh and Veraval. GSRTC buses and large number of private buses are available to arrive at gir forest national park from various big cities like Junagadh, Veraval, Somnath, Dwarka, Rajkot, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune.
Getting to gir national park by means of rail is quite easy. Sasan Gir also have a railway station connecting between several towns, cities and nearby states. Nearby towns are Veraval, Junagadh and Delwada which only takes 1km to the Sasan Gir National Park while the most convenient railway station is Rajkot.
There are trains for Jabalpur, Pune and Trivenndrum from Junagadh. There is also a meter-gauge service to Delvada and broad-gauge to Veraval and Rajkot.
Delhi is connected to Rajkot through various express trains which are the Sarvodaya Exp. (Dep. 21:55, Monday),Jat Jamnagar Exp. (21:55, Sun), Dee Porbandar Exp. (8:25, Mon, Thu),Uttaranchal Exp. (13:40, Sun).
Keshod is the nearest airport to Sasan Gir which is 90 km far away .
Diu is the nearest airport is located at Nagoa which is 84 km far away from Gir Forest. Only Jet Airways is the only airline which provides direct flights to Mumbai and Porbandar.Flight to Mumbai is listed everyday except on Saturday. International Tourists can take a flight to Mumbai then head towards Diu via air and then by means of private transport or state transport,you can reach Sasan Gir Forest. Journey by road takes near about 2 hours.
Rajkot is the nearest Airport which is located at the distance of about 172 kilometers from Sasan Gir Forest is the next alternative for the tourists who prefer air travel. Rajkot Domestic Airport provides better air connectivity with Mumbai and other important destinations via regular flights operated by Air India, JetLite and Jet Airways.
Gir Interpretation Zone
The gir interpretation zone is situated at Devalia which is at a distance of 12km from Sasan Gir. The gir interpretation zone devalia having 4.12-sq-km fenced off compound is home to a cross section of Gir wildlife.One can see the lions in Gir Interpretation Zone and one can have only 30 to 45 minutes trough bus. Large number of vehicles runs from Sasan Gir.Interesting thing is that one can have the spot look of lions on the road.
